Google has announced that the final, shipping version of the new update is available for all pixel phones today. And, as usual, it has announced a name to go along with the over-the-air update: “Android 9 Pie.”

The new Android 9 Pie platform, the successor to Android Oreo, has various improvements over the previous Android versions, but the most notable one is the Gesture-based navigation system. This is highly inspired by the way the interface featured on the iPhone X last year and omits the traditional three-button navigation.

How to download?
Android 9 Pie is now available for the Pixel, Pixel 2, and Essential Phone, and it’s supposed to come to other phones that had beta access within the next few months.

Some of the biggest highlights of the update are the following:

App time limits
There's is a lot of new stuff in Android pie, but this one is the most worth. Google is going to show you how much time you spend on every app. You can set a certain amount of time every day to limit yourself for using a particular app.

Fewer notification annoyances
The new Android is trying to do more in order to get out the annoying app notifications. In simple words, it will give options to mute app notifications and enable a DO NOT DISTURB mode so that that notifications don’t appear on-screen at all, even on lock-screens.

Gesture Navigation
Finally, after six years, the Google has made a subnational change how you can navigate Android. Either it is a swipe up, swipe down, swipe right or swipe left, you'll be able to multi-task. However, this gesture interface will not be activated by default, if you want you can turn it on from settings.

Screenshot Editing
This one is still overdue, but a very exciting update. IN Android pie, you will be able to take a screenshot from the power menu as well as edit and mark up on them, instead of jumping over to another app.

Along with these major new features, Android Pie has some more new advantages including Conversations, photos, smart reply options and test selection with an improved magnifier widget. To avail all these features on your Pixel phone, all you need update your phone to Android Pie from the Google Play store on your phone.
